Kim Jong Un jokes he’ll stop waking up South Korean president with missile tests
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un joked on Friday that he wouldn’t interrupt South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s sleep with missile tests anymore.
The joke was made as the two leaders agreed to work on a peace plan that would completely denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. {mosads}
“I will make sure not to interrupt your sleep anymore,” Kim told Moon Jae-in, according to The Associated Press.
The news service added that while the two nations took no specific steps on Friday, the two had agreed to seek “a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula through complete denuclearization.”
North Korea and South Korea have technically been in a military standoff since the conclusion of the Korean War with an armistice in 1953.
President Trump reacted to the news in a tweet early Friday morning, writing that “only time will tell” whether progress will emerge from the historic meeting of the two Korean leaders.
“After a furious year of missile launches and Nuclear testing, a historic meeting between North and South Korea is now taking place. Good things are happening, but only time will tell!” Trump tweeted.
“KOREAN WAR TO END!” he added. “The United States, and all of its GREAT people, should be very proud of what is now taking place in Korea!”
