McCabe spoke to Mueller’s team, turned over memos on Trump: report

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe has met with investigators on special counsel Robert Mueller’s team, and has handed over memos documenting interactions with President Trump. 

Axios reported Saturday that McCabe, who was abruptly fired on Friday just two days before his expected retirement, touched on what he knows about Trump’s move last year to oust then-FBI Director James Comey.

The memos turned over by McCabe reportedly back up Comey’s claims about unusual meetings with Trump in the months before he was fired.

In those meetings, Trump reportedly asked Comey for a loyalty pledge and later requested that he drop the FBI’s investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Comey authored his own memos after his meetings with Trump. 

McCabe’s memos also detail at least one meeting he himself had with Trump, according to Axios. McCabe told CNN that Trump derided his wife, who ran unsuccessfully for Virginia state Senate in 2015, in conversations with him.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe on Friday for making an unauthorized disclosure to the press and for misleading congressional investigators. 

McCabe has denied those accusations, and has argued in turn that his ouster was politically motivated and intended to undercut Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

McCabe was set to retire on Sunday.
