AFL-CIO claims Trump’s union support is fading

One of the largest union groups in the U.S. says Donald Trump is losing support among union members.

The AFL-CIO on Wednesday released an internal poll showing the Republican presidential nominee’s support among rank-and-file members in key states dropped from 41 percent in June to just 36 percent now.

{mosads}The poll measured the opinions of union members in battleground states like Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Nevada.

“Donald Trump said and continues to reiterate, ‘I have tremendous support within unions,’” said Michael Podhorzer, the AFL-CIO’s political director. “The claim is simply not true.”

“He can keep saying it, but like most things with Trump, the claim is just hollow words — and it won’t come true on Election Day,” Podhorzer added.

The AFL-CIO has endorsed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, as have many of the nation’s largest unions.

Despite the support Clinton has received from the nation’s labor leaders, Trump has repeatedly said that many everyday union members back his campaign. Trump has been critical of trade deals and American companies that send jobs overseas.
