Media reform group: Keep politics out of public broadcasting
{mosads}The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday struck down a law that prohibits political and issue ads on public TV and radio stations. In the two-to-one ruling, the court said the ban violates the First Amendment.
Aaron said viewers rightly consider public stations a refuge from political debate, and are not interested in seeing the firewall breached.
“At a time when people are turning to public broadcasting to get away from the flood of nasty attack ads, viewers don’t want to see ‘Sesame Street’ being brought to them by shadowy Super PACs,” Aaron said.
