Bad bigotry when a group of House Republicans slander Clinton deputy

And now Michele Bachmann and several other House Republicans join the freak show that I harshly criticize in my new column.
The attack against Huma Abedin, a good woman and powerfully loyal
American, was a disgrace against the Congress. Thank goodness that John
McCain put other Republicans to shame by standing for truth and honor
and defending Abedin. It is good that the Republican Speaker, after no
comment at first, spoke against this bigoted diatribe. Will the Speaker
now condemn the Republican member who said the Democratic Progressive
Caucus is full of communists?

Let me be clear. Most Republicans do not agree with Bachmann and her colleagues who joined her attack. But many very senior Republicans have trouble denouncing these defamations that demean our democracy.

{mosads}I doubt Bachmann would have launched her attack if Abedin were of the Catholic faith, the Jewish faith, the Protestant faith or the faith of Latter-Day Saints. But she is a Muslim. Then again, Republican leaders, including the Speaker and Republican majority leader, at times have had difficulty condemning Republicans who question President Obama’s patriotic Americanism and devout Chistianity in a GOP that includes too many deniers of these facts, as well as other facts such as climate change.

One person publicly told Mitt Romney that President Obama is guilty of treason. Romney had no response.

Another person called the president a “monster.” The best Mitt Romney could do was say that would not be his choice of words. How courageous of Romney!

Yes, indeed, this repellant conduct would not occur in the People’s House when Nancy Pelosi was Speaker, and will not occur if she becomes Speaker again.

I salute Abedin for her service, her courage and her patriotism, along with McCain.

As for her boss, the secretary of State, the greatest fear of Republicans is that President Obama runs with her as vice president, a matter I mentioned in my column and will have much more to say about, very soon.
