‘Huge’ Eastwood fan Obama not offended by actor’s Tampa speech

President Obama isn’t offended about the chair Clint Eastwood brought on stage and addressed as “Mr. Obama” during the Republican National Convention.

“One thing about being president or running for president — if you’re easily offended, you should probably choose another profession,” Obama told USA Today in an interview published late Friday.

{mosads}”I am a huge Clint Eastwood fan,” Obama said. “He is a great actor, and an even better director. … I think the last few movies that he’s made have been terrific.”

He did say that there are no plans for a similar speech to take place this week at the Democratic National Convention. 

“I think we’ll be playing this pretty straight,” he said.

Of course, Eastwood’s speech was mostly unplanned, as well. Romney’s campaign said the actor, who reportedly asked for the chair moments before going on stage, was “ad libbing” the speech, which went more than double the time allotted. 

“We’re all Clint Eastwood fans here in the Obama campaign,” senior adviser David Plouffe added on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday. He noted that Mitt Romney’s campaign probably wished Eastwood were not still prompting questions three days after the convention.

“I think they probably had other business they wanted to transact,” he said. “You’ll have to ask them how that all went down.”
