NRCC launches 26 ads in $6.3-million blitz

{mosads}Some ads, like those targeting Democrat Scott Peters (Calif.) and Rep. John Tierney (D-Mass.), highlight scandals specific to the candidate and the race. Peters is accused of voting to underfund pensions and hide it with fraudulent bond disclosures in San Diego during his time on the city council, and Tierney is linked to his family’s gambling ring — both issues that have remained central in their opponents’ attacks.

Others, however, are essentially cookie-cutter attacks on the Democratic candidate’s connection to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) or President Obama, and Democratic policies such as the stimulus or the healthcare reform law.

The ad blitz is part of an aggressive strategy from Republicans to defend their control of the House — by most accounts, a likely outcome of the November elections. Democrats would need a net win of 25 seats to regain the lower chamber, and a number of vulnerable Democratic incumbents have made such an outcome unlikely for the party.

But Republicans won’t take a single seat for granted in the six weeks leading up to Election Day, as this new spate of advertisements indicates.
