Kal Penn promotes new White House-set TV show
{mosads}Lovett, also a former White House staffer, is an executive producer for the show. Lovett worked as a speechwriter to President Obama for three years; Penn worked at the White House as Obama’s associate director of public engagement twice in-between acting gigs and was a national co-chairman for the 2012 campaign.
Lovett told The Hollywood Reporter the show will be informed by his experience in the White House, but that “this family will have absolutely nothing to do with the president.”
“The idea is that this is a dysfunctional family, and the first family today is so far from that, it’s ridiculous,” he said.
The NBC comedy, starring Bill Pullman and Jenna Elfman as the president and first lady, premieres Jan. 10.
