Sen. McCaskill writing book about Senate race

{mosads}McCaskill said, speaking to conservative radio host Jamie Allman, that she was motivated to write the book because the race “was so interesting and I think that people need to understand that some of the extreme elements in this country — at both ends of the political spectrum — are not politically viable.”

Akin plummeted in the polls and lost support in droves after he stated that, in cases of “legitimate rape,” pregnancy is rare because the female body “has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

His gaffe lost the GOP what the party initially considered an easy pickup opportunity, in a state that President Obama lost in 2012 by double digits.

Akin was nominated in an upset after the top three Republican contenders, including businessman John Brunner and Sarah Steelman, split the vote. McCaskill said  in the interview that Brunning was her biggest concern, as he would have been able to self-fund his race and had no legislative record to attack.
