Report: Obama to meet with pro-White House advocacy group
President Obama will meet on Monday with members from Organizing for Action (OFA), the pro-White House political advocacy group formed from the remnants of this 2012 campaign operation.
Obama will deliver remarks and answer questions at an OFA dinner Monday evening in Washington.
Attendees will also hear from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), according to The Associated Press, which first reported the meeting, giving the president a chance to plan strategy on pushing many of his key issues ahead of the August congressional recess.
{mosads}Organizing for Action has already begun ramping up its efforts to promote the president’s healthcare law, immigration reform and gun control this summer.
The group has already run ads touting the benefits of ObamaCare as the administration begins rolling out the new insurance exchanges, which will begin enrolling consumers on Oct. 1.
Democrats fear that a botched rollout could endanger their hopes of retaining the Senate and capturing the House in the 2014 election, and OFA has said they intend to play a key role in explaining the law to the public and boosting enrollment.
The group also plans a major campaign to rally support on immigration reform over the summer by targeting lawmakers in 75 congressional districts they believe crucial to winning support for a House immigration bill.
The Senate passed comprehensive reform last month, but those efforts have stalled in the GOP-controlled House, where conservatives want more attention to border enforcement and oppose measures to grant citizenship to illegal immigrants already in the country.
In April, OFA also launched online ads pressing for more gun control, including ones targeting red state senators opposed to a background check bill that fell short in the upper chamber.
The group raised $8.2 million in the second quarter, up from its $4.9 million haul the first three months of 2013.
