Obama to discuss VA backlog at meeting of disabled veterans
{mosads}In April, the White House proposed a 13.6 percent increasing in funding of veterans benefits, in an effort to expedite the process. The administration has also attempted to implement a paperless claim system, and says it still hopes to eliminate the backlog by 2015.
“The president has directed that everybody in the government who has a piece of this action needs to address this effort,” White House chief of staff Denis McDonough said then. “We’re involved with this on a daily basis to try and bring that number down.”
It will be the president’s second event with military members in less than a week, ahead of his planned vacation in Nantucket later this month.
According to White House press secretary Jay Carney, Obama will visit with troops at Camp Pendleton in California on Thursday “to thank them for their extraordinary service to our nation.”
