Syria: Obama is Winston Churchill compared to Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Alan Grayson
As far as Paul and Cruz are concerned, they are in heated competition with each other for GOP caucus voters in Iowa in 2016. But ask them what they would do to stop the carnage and they offer nothing — zero — that would stop the carnage.
{mosads}As far as Grayson is concerned, I would respectfully propose that the campaign money he is seeking to raise from this tragedy on his website be donated to a charity for Syrians who suffer from the crimes of Assad. What does Grayson offer to stop the carnage? Nothing.
In an earlier era of mass carnage, the world witnesses the result. From 1936, when the Spanish fascists with support from Hitler and Mussolini began their attacks against the Republican government of Spain, until Pearl Harbor in 1941, the leaders of great nations looked the other way until their nation was attacked.
Some people criticize FDR for not doing enough, but public opinion in America opposed strong action throughout 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940 and 1941 — until Dec. 7. Were these majorities who opposed action against Hitler proven right or wrong?
Obama has made the hard call and proposed the strong action that would take a real stand and make a real difference, and for this I applaud him. Remember, for a very long time public opinion believed that Churchill was wrong. Thank heaven for Britain — and America and Europe and freedom — that Churchill emerged when he did.
Today the polls will twist and turn, but someday historians will conclude that Barack Obama was right about Syria in September of 2013, and my advice is that we show the courage to be right with him as the crucial votes in Congress approaches.
