Durbin has ‘new feeling’ about BP, and not a good one
Durbin’s remarks came during a visit with a bipartisan Senate delegation, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.
While Durbin attacked BP, Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), speaking at the same press conference, faulted the Obama administration’s response to the spill. He’s angry that the administration has not yet approved a plan for building up the barrier islands along Louisiana’s coast to protect sensitive marshlands.
Vitter said he has appreciated President Barack Obama’s commitment to an aggressive response to the spill, but is now losing faith.
“That commitment is now being broken because we cannot get, so far, a timely, clear answer from the Corps of Engineers and others on this emergency dredging, barrier island plan,” Vitter said.
