Longtime CBS newsman Bob Schieffer: ‘I’m going to be working for a while’

The 2012 presidential race hasn’t even gotten into full swing yet, but Bob Schieffer, at 74, is already raring to go.

The “Face the Nation” host and former “CBS Evening News” anchor says, “It’s really a lot of fun moderating a presidential debate.”

{mosads}The veteran journalist, who played referee in a 2004 debate between former President George W. Bush and Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), and again in 2008 between then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), is eyeing the possibility of moderating another one “somewhere down the line.”

Schieffer, who has worked for CBS News for more than 40 years, has no plans of slowing down — although he has pulled a Michael Jordan before, publicly flirting with the idea of ending his career: “In 2007, I guess it was, I decided I would retire and I announced it three times. And I never got around to doing it. So I just decided the hell with it. I’m going to be working for a while. I don’t know when I’m going to stop.”
