SNL addresses lack of diversity criticism with White House skit

“Saturday Night Live” addressed growing criticism that the show doesn’t have enough racial diversity with a skit parodying President Obama and his celebrity-filled White House dinners.

{mosads}Guest host and actress Kerry Washington played first lady Michelle Obama, who was sharing excitement about the upcoming dinner with a cast member playing Obama. Washington quickly left the set after a bogus press secretary Jay Carney said Oprah Winfrey was attending the dinner.

Washington returned as Winfrey, but then left the set again after she was asked to change into another wardrobe and portray singer Beyonce.

A script then ran across the screen that said the show’s producers apologize for the lack of diversity and joked that they aim to fix the problem, unless the producers fall in love with another white actor first.

The bogus Carney then made the point of the skit even more obvious when he announced the arrival of six different actors portraying actor Matthew McConaughey.

Civil rights activist Al Sharpton then made a cameo appearance and tried to tie the message of the skit together.

“What have we learned from this sketch?” he asked. “As usual, absolutely nothing.”
