Super PAC hits Begich, Hagan, Landrieu on dropped health care coverage

American Crossroads, the Karl Rove-backed super PAC, is launching a series of paid web ads hitting three vulnerable incumbent Democratic senators with the erroneous claim made by the White House that Americans could keep their current coverage under the health care law if they preferred it.

The minute-plus videos feature repeated clips of President Obama pledging that Americans can keep their health care plan if they like it, interspersed with news reports declaring that claim to be wrong and revealing the White House was aware that insurers would cancel some plans.

The videos are hitting Sens. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Mark Begich (D-Alaska) and Kay Hagan (D-N.C.), and feature clips of each senator at the end echoing the claim that Americans can keep their insurance under the health care law.

On-screen text reads: “Obama lied, Hagan lied, your healthcare died.”

They come on the heels of a difficult few weeks for Democrats as a glitchy launch of the exchange websites deterred thousands of Americans from signing up for coverage, and news reports revealed insurers were dropping certain plans that don’t comply with the law’s regulations.

Thousands have already received cancellation notices.

And Republicans in the House and the Senate are seeking to make the ObamaCare problems an issue for vulnerable Democrats in 2014. Landrieu, Begich and Hagan are all top targets in the GOP’s pursuit of the seven seats it needs to take back the majority in the Senate.
