Arizona’s Ironman race in Tempe included a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run. Sinema, a freshman, had trained for the race for a year. Ironman races are hosted worldwide.
At one point during the bike portion, Sinema fell off her bike because of a four-foot tumbleweed in the road, she tweeted Monday.
Only @IRONMANArizona – 4 ft. tumbleweed in a whirling mini-tornado on Beeline knocked me off bike onto the highway. Hard. #stillfinished
