President goes behind the scenes on DreamWorks tour
President Obama is taking on a new role: the voice of a purple alien.
The commander in chief got a behind-the-scenes peek at moviemaking on Tuesday during a tour of DreamWorks Animation studios in California, hosted by CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg.
{mosads}Obama stopped in a recording studio, where actors Steve Martin and Jim Parsons were busy voicing parts for the upcoming film “Home.”
After getting a rundown of how voice recording happens before animation when creating a movie, Obama heard his own sounds in action.
The president watched a clip of his voice coming out of the mouth of an alien named Oh, according to a White House press pool report.
“Happy Thanksgiving, everybody. Welcome to the White House,” the POTUS-voiced alien said.
“That’ll impress the girls,” Obama cracked.
He was also heard jokingly complaining that the ears of the extraterrestrial stuck out.
“Saturday Night Live” alum Martin told Obama that he got a cold in anticipation of his visit, telling the White House resident, “The fact that I played banjo at the White House for the president of the United States was the biggest thrill” of his life.
Martin, who plays banjo in a bluegrass band, performed in a Fourth of July celebration at the White House in 2011.
Katzenberg is a big Democratic donor. The head of DreamWorks bundled at least $500,000 to Obama’s 2008 and 2012 White House bids, and donated $3 million to the pro-Obama PAC Priorities USA.
