Jackson compares ‘Duck’ star to Rosa Parks’s bus driver
Jesse Jackson has entered the “Duck Dynasty” controversy, comparing Phil Robertson of the reality television show to Rosa Parks’s bus driver.
It wasn’t a favorable comparison.
{mosads}Jackson said Robertson’s words were worse than the bus driver’s actions when he ordered Parks to give up her seat to a white person.
“At least the bus driver, who ordered Rosa Parks to surrender her seat to a white person, was following state law,” he said in a release, first reported by the Chicago Tribune.
“Robertson’s statements were uttered freely and openly without cover of the law, within a context of what he seemed to believe was ‘white privilege,’ ” the longtime civil rights leader said.
Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition has demanded a meeting with A&E, the network that airs “Duck Dynasty,” and Cracker Barrel, which initially removed items related to the show from its shelves before returning them.
A&E suspended “Duck Dynasty” in response to remarks about homosexuality by Robertson before deciding to air a marathon of the show.
Jackson wants Robertson to be put on indefinite hiatus.
