Boston swears in first new mayor in 20 years

Martin Walsh (D) was sworn in Monday as Boston’s new mayor.

He succeeds Thomas Menino — Boston’s longest-serving mayor — who held the office for 20 years.

{mosads}Walsh, 46, was elected in November; he previously served as a representative in the Massachusetts legislature.

On election night, Vice President Joe Biden meant to call Walsh wishing him congratulations. Biden, however, called someone who shares the same name as the new mayor. The other Martin Walsh happened to also be a former staffer to the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Ma.).

Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-Fla.), chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, also made the same mistake and called the wrong Walsh.
