DC Metro: Ridership 6 percent of normal levels
Washington, D.C.’s Metrorail subway system reported its ridership was only 6 percent of a normal Thursday morning, as federal government offices shut down because of snow.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) tweeted that it carried 13,658 passengers by 9 a.m. on Thursday morning, compared to 218,778 during the same period last week.
The D.C. Metro system, which is the second busiest transit system in the U.S., normally carries about 700,000 passengers per day.
