Warner: ‘Staff #fail’

Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) deleted a tweet Thursday that said he was waiting for the Virginia Republican Party to claim the latest snowstorm was caused by ObamaCare.

Warner said on Twitter that the tweet, which someone on his staff had posted, was quickly deleted.

The Sunlight Foundation’s Politwoops, which archives lawmakers’ deleted tweets, recorded the one deleted by Warner.

“Just a matter of time: waiting for the @VA_GOP to claim this winter storm was caused by The Affordable Care Act. #Snowbamacare,” the tweet read.

Warner was referring to the major snowstorm that hit the East Coast hard Wednesday night and into Thursday. At least a foot of snow fell in some spots in Virginia and the Washington, D.C., metro area.

The tweet came after Virginia’s Republican Party launched a website on Thursday to spotlight Warner’s record in support of the president’s healthcare law.

“Warner cast the 60th and critical vote for ObamaCare. He could have stopped it. Instead he rallied for it,” the website, markwarnerrecord.com, reads.

Fact-checking website Politifact rated that statement as “mostly true,” because the law would not have moved forward without 60 votes, including Warner’s.

The Democratic incumbent is running for reelection this November and has been leading Republican challenger Ed Gillespie by double digits in recent polls.

Gillespie is the former chairman of the Republican National Committee.
