Apple CEO defends green projects

Apple CEO Tim Cook defended the tech giant’s investments in green energy in a recent meeting with shareholders after being asked to stop funneling money into green projects.

A representative for conservative think tank National Center for Public Policy Research, said Apple shouldn’t put money into clean energy projects that aren’t profitable on a call with Cook, The Independent reports.

Apple does “a lot of things for reasons beside profit motive,” Cook quipped. “We want to leave the world better than we found it.”

“If you want me to do things only for [return on investment] reasons, you should get out of this stock,” Cook said to the representative of the conservative think tank.

Since taking over Apple in 2011, Cook has added to the company’s use of renewable energy with increases in the use of solar, wind and geothermal resources used to power offices.
