NYC police chief to ride subway at night

New York City Police Chief Bill Bratton is planning to ride the city’s subway at night to test the safety of passengers who rely on the system outside of normal business hours, the New York Daily News reports.

Bratton, who is a former New York Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) police chief, is attributing to the nighttime subway rides to the “broken windows” theory of police work, according to the report.

{mosads}The broken windows theory argues that small rule violations, like skipping out on subway fares or panhandling on trains, usually lead to larger crime problems. 

Bratton was appointed this year to be New York City’s top cop by new Mayor Bill de Blasio (D).
