Wednesday: House attacks Obama on law enforcement

The House meets in the afternoon to start work on two bills aimed at reining in what Republicans say is a lawless Obama administration.

One bill is the ENFORCE Act, H.R. 4138, which would allow the House or Senate to authorize legal action against the administration’s failure to enforce laws passed by Congress. The Faithful Execution of the Law Act, H.R. 3973, would require agencies to report to Congress when laws aren’t enforced.

{mosads}The bills are a reaction to Obama’s numerous decisions to waive the implementation of ObamaCare, and also his 2011 decision to relax deportation enforcement against certain illegal residents.

The House will start with a rule governing floor consideration of both bills. Once the rule is passed, members will debate the ENFORCE Act and four Democratic amendments, and then pass it.

Members will start debating the Faithful Execution of the Law Act, but is expected to faithfully execute that bill Thursday.

The Senate starts at 9:30 a.m., and at 10:30 a.m., senators will hold a series of confirmation votes for five judicial nominees. One of these is Carolyn McHugh for the Tenth Circuit; the other four are nominations for district court judges for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Following those votes, the Senate will vote on the nomination of Sarah Raskin to be Deputy Secretary of the Treasury.

Then, the Senate turns back to legislation, and will begin consideration of S. 1086, the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act. The bill reauthorizes federal grants to states to provide childcare services to low-income families.
