Dems get candidate against Graham
South Carolina state Sen. Brad Hutto (D) will challenge Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), giving Democrats a credible candidate in the race.
{mosads}”We need a leader in the Senate who will spend more time talking to folks in Barnwell, Bishopville, and Beaufort than appearing on Sunday morning talk shows. I will focus on job creation with special emphasis on rural South Carolina,” Hutto said in a Friday statement.
Graham will be very tough to beat in the strongly Republican state if he wins his primary, as expected. But if he somehow falls to one of the half dozen underfunded Tea Party challengers running against him, Hutto could be the type of Democrat to shoot the moon and win.
Hutto took a shot at Graham’s focus on foreign policy in his announcement.
“We need to require our overseas allies to accept a larger role in their own security so that we can start refocusing attention on rebuilding roads and schools in our own country,” he said.
