AFL-CIO chief calls Warren ‘prototype’ of good president
AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said Tuesday that “it don’t get no better” than Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) when it comes to possible holders of the Oval Office.
“In my opinion she is the prototype of a person we would want to be president of the United States,” Trumka wrote of Warren in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session Tuesday. “She has a very well defined set of values and unlike many politicians, she actually sticks by those values and fights to implement them. In short, it don’t get no better.”
{mosads}Warren generates a lot of energy among liberal Democrats, stoking speculation about a 2016 run, but she has said she is not running.
“I’m not running for president and I plan to serve out my term,” Warren said in December.
She has also signed a letter urging Hillary Clinton to run for president.
Trumka campaigned for Warren during her 2012 race against then-Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.). He tried to counteract Brown’s appeal to working class men.
“Do we want a buddy who’ll pat us on the back?” Trumka said then. “Who wears a Bruins jersey with the boys? Or a leader who will fight for our right to form unions and bargain for a better life?”
