Conservatives should repudiate Palin endorsements

“Whither goest thou, America, in thy shiny car in the night?” — Jack Kerouac, On the Road

{mosads}As rumors of tortured pro-Ukraine activists begin to appear in the Western press and a body of one who appears to have been tortured is found, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) offers an American mirror. “If I were in charge,” she told the crowd at the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) “Stand and Fight Rally,” according to reports, “waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists.”

Palin is also travelling the country to endorse worthy and creative candidates like Ben Sasse (R), running for U.S. Senate in Nebraska, and the clever and amusing state Sen. Joni Ernst (R), also a worthy candidate, running for U.S. Senate in Iowa.

I don’t really see Palin as a traditional banana-republic fascist. She just defaults on occasion to that archaic portion of the brain controlled by this tribal, proto-European substate which Franz Kafka so eloquently documented. It creeps today into the hearts and minds of otherwise moderate Americans. But these candidates and others who receive Palin’s endorsement today should repudiate, as her comments at the NRA rally classically represent the Tea Party’s unfortunate descent to a squalid, dangerous and un-American horde.
