Clinton vows to elect female president

Hillary Clinton told a weekly German magazine she will work to make sure the United States will have a female president, even if it’s not her.

Clinton told Stern magazine she “will do everything I can to make that happen,” according to a translated excerpt by the Associated Press.

{mosads}“I don’t know if that means I will be the person to make it happen. I just have to factor that into my decision making,” she added.

The former secretary of State, U.S. senator and first lady said the U.S. lags behind other countries that have had women in charge of their governments.

In Germany, for example, Angela Merkel became chancellor in 2005. Brazil and Chile also have female leaders.

Clinton launched a national book tour last week to promote her new memoir Hard Choices about her time in the Obama administration. She’s considered the 2016 Democratic frontrunner for president if she decides to run.
