House GOP to talk energy in weekly address

Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) said Friday the GOP weekly address will focus on U.S. energy.

Ahead of the House’s energy week Upton gave a sneak peek of the Republican address, which airs Saturday morning.

“I’m going to talk about the exciting potential of America’s energy abundance to support our families our economy and our position as a global energy leader,” Upton said in the short preview.

Next week, the House will tackle bills on pipeline infrastructure and natural gas exports.

Sending liquefied natural gas overseas has built up momentum in light of the Ukrainian crisis.

Republicans are arguing that Ukraine’s energy dependence on Russia would be lessened by natural gas exports from the U.S. and also make a stronger case to build the Keystone XL pipeline.
