Senate confirms ambassador to Iraq

The Senate voted 93-0 on Thursday to confirm Stuart Jones as the U.S. ambassador to Iraq.

Jones has served as the the U.S. ambassador to Jordan since 2011. 

{mosads}Previously, Jones served as deputy chief of mission in Baghdad from 2010 to 2011 and as governorate coordinator for Al Anbar Province in 2004. 

Jones was also director for Iraq on the National Security Council from 2004 to 2005. 

The Senate confirmed five other nominations by voice vote:

– Robert Stephen Beecroft to be U.S. ambassador to Egypt;

– Karen Dynan to be an assistant secretary of the Treasury;

– Esther Puakela Kia’aina to be an assistant secretary of the Interior; 

– Vincent G. Loganto be special trustee, Office of Special Trustee for American Indians, Department of the Interior; and

– Jo Emily Handelsman to be an associate director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy.
