Hank Aaron swings at fundraising for Michelle Nunn
Baseball legend and former Atlanta Braves star Hank Aaron is lending a hand to Georgia Senate candidate Michelle Nunn (D).
Aaron, who for decades held the record for most home runs ever hit, pinch-hit for Nunn’s campaign on Tuesday, writing a fundraising letter to her supporters.
{mosads}”The 755 home runs I hit in my time mean a lot to me, but there’s another record that I’m proud to hold, the all-time record for Runs Batted In (RBIs),” Aaron writes in the Wednesday email. “You see, games aren’t won or lost on the efforts of one person, they rest on the shoulders of team. And every RBI is a result of teammates working together to achieve one common goal — victory.”
Aaron goes on to say he’s been “truly impressed” by Nunn’s “commitment to service, to helping Georgians empower themselves, and to making our state a better place.”
Aaron is one of Georgia’s most famous athletes, and one of the best-known and most popular baseball players in history. His support could help Nunn, who’s been running as a centrist, both reach across party lines and rev up African-American excitement about her campaign.
Nunn will face businessman David Perdue (R), who won his primary earlier this week.
