Second Dallas patient tests negative for Ebola

The second patient tested for Ebola in Dallas does not have the deadly virus, the Texas health department said Thursday.

The patient, Michael West Monnig, was rushed to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on Wednesday with some Ebola-like symptoms. The hospital said Thursday that he is now in good condition “with no fever, no vomiting, no diarrhea reported.”

“His current condition is NOT consistent with an early stage Ebola diagnosis,” hospital spokesman Wendell Watson wrote in a statement Thursday.

Monnig is a Dallas County sheriff deputy who visited the apartment where the city’s Ebola victim, Thomas Eric Duncan, had stayed. The deputy reportedly did not have direct contact with Duncan, who died Wednesday, but did come into contact with Duncan’s family members.

The city is continuing to monitor 48 people who are considered at risk for developing Ebola due to contact with Duncan.

With growing alarm over Ebola after Duncan’s death, dozens of hospitals have admitted patients who suspected they had Ebola symptoms. No patients have tested positive.
