GOP takes back governor’s mansion in Ark.
Former Rep. Asa Hutchinson (R) won the Arkansas governor’s race on Tuesday, knocking off another former congressman, Mike Ross (D).
{mosads}Hutchinson, who led in the recent polling, won in a state where voters strongly disapprove of President Obama. His victory recaptures the governor’s mansion for Republicans, after two terms of current Gov. Mike Beebe (D). Hutchinson served as a prosecutor in former President Clinton’s impeachment trial in the late 1990s, and served as director of the Drug Enforcement Administration in the George W. Bush administration.
Like Sen. Mark Pryor (D), Ross hoped to take advantage of Arkansas’s historically Democratic bent, and the continuing popularity of the Clintons. Ross and Sen. Mark Pryor’s(D) defeats Tuesday mark just the latest sign that Arkansas appears to be trending increasingly Republican.
