GOP may hold hearings on ‘stupidity’

House Republicans are mulling a hearing over ObamaCare consultant Jonathan Gruber’s remark that the “stupidity of the American voter” contributed to the law’s passage.

“We may want to have hearings on this,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who is a member of the House Oversight Committee, told The Washington Post.

{mosads}“I just had a colleague text me saying, ‘We’ve got to look into this!’ ” Jordan told the Post, adding that other members of the committee were outraged by the comment as well.

“Hearings are a possibility, but nothing has been planned yet,” Jordan’s spokesman, Darin Miller, told The Hill.

Gruber, one of the law’s architects and a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, made the comment last year. He suggested that ObamaCare passed because many lawmakers and voters didn’t know what was in the law or how its financing worked.

“Basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical for the thing to pass,” Gruber said.

Frederick Hill, a spokesman for the House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), told The Hill that he was not aware of any plans for a hearing.
