US condemns ‘horrific’ terrorist attack in Kenya
The United States strongly condemns a terrorist attack on a bus in Kenya Saturday that left 28 people dead, the White House said.
“The United States condemns in the strongest terms today’s horrific attack in Kenya by the terrorist group al-Shabaab against innocent civilians traveling aboard a Nairobi-bound bus,” National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan said in a statement.
{mosads}Gunmen from al-Shahaab, a Somali-based terrorist group, attacked a bus in northeastern Kenya, according to reports.
The extremist group claimed responsibility for the attack.
They first hijacked a Nairobi-bound bus near the Somalia border that was carrying 60 passengers.
Passengers who weren’t Muslim were singled out, removed from the bus and shot at close range, reports said.
“The United States stands with our Kenyan partners in the effort to counter the threat of terrorism and affirms our ongoing commitment to working with all Kenyans to combat these atrocities,” Meehan said.
Nineteen men and nine women were killed.
