US airstrikes target ISIS militants in Syria

 

The U.S. military has launched 11 airstrikes against Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq (ISIS) since Friday. 

The Department of Defense said between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, U.S. and partner-nation military forces launched five airstrikes in Syria and six airstrikes in Iraq. 

The airstrikes in Syria, DOD said were all near the contested city of Kobani. They struck Islamic State fighting positions, two tactical units and destroyed an Islamic State building and seven Islamic State fighting positions. 

In Iraq, the airstrike launched near Qaim destroyed an Islamic State militants’ bunker and two airstrikes launched near Asad struck a tactical unit and destroyed two vehicles. Another was launched near Mosul and two strikes were launched near Sinjar, destroying a fighting position, a vehicle and a heavy weapon, according to DOD’s release.
