Cloture Vote Cut Important Immigration Debate Short (Sen. Chuck Grassley)
Yesterday’s cloture vote was ill conceived and should never have been brought forward in the first place. To end debate after only two weeks on one of the most important domestic policy issues we’ll consider, especially after the majority bypassed the committees of jurisdiction, speaks volumes as to the problems with this bill. There are a lot of good amendments that have been introduced and members deserve to have them considered.
This bill has a lot of good parts to it and these amendments can make the bill even better, however as long as amnesty remains in the bill I cannot vote for it. I voted for amnesty in 1986 when it was supposed to solve the problem of illegal immigrants, but I’ve found when you reward illegality you get more of it.
