Putin extends import ban on foods from US, Canada and Europe

Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended the ban on U.S. and European food imports for another year.

Putin’s decision Wednesday is a relaliatory response to an agreement by EU foreign ministers to prolong sanctions imposed on Russia over the crisis in Ukraine until January 2016, Yahoo News reports.

{mosads}The list of banned products includes beef, pork, poultry, fish, fruit, vegetables, cheese, milk and other dairy products from the U.S., Canada, the European Union, Norway and Australia.

When the ban was first imposed, U.S. Treasury officials said the impact of the ban on the U.S. economy would likely be significant, according to reports in The Wall Street Journal at the time.
