Carson: Planned Parenthood in black neighborhoods to ‘control’ population
GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson late Wednesday tied Planned Parenthood to eugenics and then eugenics to Hillary Clinton, saying the organization puts clinics in black neighborhoods to “control that population.”
{mosads}”Well, maybe I’m not objective when it comes to Planned Parenthood,” Carson said during an interview on Fox News’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” adding that Margaret Sanger, the organization’s founder, had a history of eugenic and racist policies.
“But you know, I know who Margaret Sanger is, and I know that she believed in eugenics, and that she was not particularly enamored with black people,” said Carson, a retired neurosurgeon.
“And one of the reasons you find most of their clinics in black neighborhoods is so that you can find ways to control that population,” he said.
“And I think people should go back and read about Margaret Sanger who founded this place — a woman who, by the way, Hillary Clinton says she admires,” Carson added of Clinton, the front-runner for the Democratic nomination. “Look up and see what many people in Nazi Germany thought about her — a great person.”
Carson also disputed claims that defunding Planned Parenthood would harm women’s healthcare.
“Well, certainly women’s health is an important issue,” he said. “There are a lot of women’s health organizations that don’t engage in abortion, by the way, so by no means is it a do-or-die situation.”
“I believe that abortion and paying for abortion with federal funding when so many people are against it is just not the right thing to do,” the 2016 White House hopeful added.
Planned Parenthood’s federal funding is currently under scrutiny following the release of a series of videos depicting its work with fetal tissue.
