Obama: US takes Jordan shooting ‘very seriously’

President Obama said Monday the U.S. is taking an attack in Jordan that killed “two or three” American citizens “very seriously.”

“Obviously a full investigation is taking place,” Obama said during an Oval Office meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “We take this very seriously, and we’ll be working closely with the Jordanians to determine exactly what happened.”

{mosads}Earlier reports indicated a Jordanian police officer killed two American military personnel and one South African during a shooting Monday at a U.S.-funded security training facility.

“This is something we are paying close attention [to].”

Jordan is a close ally of the United States in the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and the incident raised concerns about the possibility of retaliatory attacks.

The shooting took place on the 10th anniversary of the worst terrorist attack in Jordan’s history, Reuters noted. Al Qaeda suicide bombers targeted three luxury hotels there in 2005, killing dozens of people.

Investigators have not identified the motive behind the attack.
