Palin: Governors are the ‘last line of defense’
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Tuesday praised a group of mostly Republican governors for opposing a federal effort to resettle Syrian refugees in their states.
“They’re our last lines of defense when it comes to taking in those who have not been vetted,” Palin said during an interview on “Fox and Friends.”
{mosads}”There is no process to vet, get rid of the bad guys, before they step foot on our soil,” the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate said.
More than two dozen Republican governors and one Democratic governor have announced their opposition to Syrian refugees being resettled in their states.
They are calling on the administration to improve its screening process. Obama said Monday that refugees would only be allowed into the U.S. after “rigorous” security screenings.
Palin said that she almost “felt sorry” for Obama because of “his naïveté, his usurping of the governors’ authorities.”
The Obama administration has suggested that the governors don’t have the authority to refuse the refugees.
Still, Palin said that the governors are “so correct when it comes to who’s authority actually it is to make sure that the people that they’re serving are safe.”
