Scorned drug exec’s Twitter account hacked
Embattled pharmaceutical executive Martin Shkreli, who is facing securities fraud charges, had his Twitter account hacked Sunday.
According to multiple reports, Shkreli’s handle was taken over sometime in the afternoon, shortly after the former hedge fund manager had been tweeting about his innocence.
{mosads}”It was hacked,” Craig Stevens, a spokesman for the former CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, confirmed to Reuters. “We have been working with Twitter to get it fixed.”
Shkreli was arrested Thursday and charged with securities fraud and conspiracy. He pleaded not guilty and was released on $5 million bail.
Shkreli is accused of stealing $11 million from Turing to pay back clients after losing their money. He resigned from the company on Friday.
“I am confident I will prevail” against the charges, he tweeted Saturday. “The allegations against me are baseless and without merit.”
Midday Sunday, strange tweets started appearing on Shrekli’s account.
“I am now a god,” one read.
“Anyone want free money? Willing to donate hundreds of thousands to charities before I got to prison…” read another.
One tweet referenced the recent revelation that Shkreli was the winner of the online auction for the Wu-Tang Clan’s much-discussed single purchase album, “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.”
“Giving away WUTANG album RT for a chance to win,” the tweet read.
Shortly before noon on Monday, it appeared Shkreli had regained control and moved to a new Twitter handle.

Shkreli initially gained widespread notoriety after his company, Turing Pharmaceuticals, decided to hike the costs of one of its drugs, which is used to treat parasitic infections in people with compromised immune systems, like HIV patients, from $13.50 to $700 per pill overnight.
The price-gouging scandal sparked widespread criticism and condemnation before Shkreli was arrested.
