Momentum building to revoke Cosby’s presidential medal, lawmaker says

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) tells The Hill that he will introduce his bill to strip Bill Cosby of the Presidential Medal of Honor on Friday afternoon as he gathers additional lawmakers as cosponsors.

Gosar believes that the White House’s refusal to rule out signing such a bill may help his effort to add more cosponsors to the six members currently supporting it.

{mosads}At a July news conference, President Obama said that no “mechanism” existed to strip the medal of honor. But at the regular White House press briefing on Thursday, his press secretary Josh Earnest said that if Congress voted upon such a measure, “we’ll take a look.”

Gosar says his bill would provide Obama with the “mechanism” that the president previously said he lacked.

“People are very tired of the moral compass of this country not being reestablished, and this is a good bill in regard with messaging that people have to be held accountable for their actions,” Gosar said in an interview with The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper.
