Iowa governor: Cruz’s birth ‘fair game’

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R) says questions about Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) eligibility for the White House are “fair game.”

“When you run for president of the United States, any question is fair game. So let the people decide,” Branstad told reporters Monday, according to The Des Moines Register.

{mosads}Cruz was born in Canada to an American mother, and last week GOP rival Donald Trump questioned whether he is eligible to be president.

2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney late last week weighed in on debate, defending Cruz as a natural born citizen, as stipulated by the Constitution.

Cruz is leading recent polls in Iowa, according to the RealClearPolitics average, ahead of the state’s caucuses on Feb. 1.
