Issa: Christie really ‘overweight’
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) went after Chris Christie on the eve of the New Hampshire primary Monday, including going after the New Jersey governor’s weight.
Issa made the remark on Boston Herald Radio on Monday while defending Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.), who suffered a barrage of attacks from Christie in a debate over the weekend.
{mosads}“He (Rubio) was told in sort of a domineering fashion by a slightly older, slightly overweight governor … OK, it wasn’t slightly, he’s a lot overweight,” Issa said of Christie.
“He chose not to take the bait of an attack and you know what, I respect that. I respect him for being Reagan-esque,” Issa continued, referring to Rubio, whom he endorsed in November.
“Instead of attacking back at his opponent and berating him, he started talking about what he thought mattered,” Issa said of Rubio pivoting to attacking President Obama several times during the debate.
Issa said he thought Christie was “auditioning to be Donald Trump’s running mate” during the debate, where Rubio appeared rattled after clashing with Christie who cast the senator as overly scripted.
