Trump: Obama looks ‘ridiculous’ in Cuba amid Brussels
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Tuesday argued that President Obama appeared “ridiculous” speaking in Cuba in the wake of terrorist attacks in Belgium.
“President Obama looks and sounds so ridiculous making his speech in Cuba, especially in the shadows of Brussels. He is being treated badly!” Trump tweeted.
{mosads}Others on social media noted that Obama’s remarks in Cuba were played on a split screen with the immediate aftermath of violence in Brussels.
The coordinated attacks early Tuesday morning in Brussels left at least 34 people dead and dozens more injured after a string of blasts at an airport and near a metro station.
Obama addressed the attacks in Brussels at the beginning of his remarks to Cuban leaders, where he emphasized a need to focus on protecting human rights.
“This is yet another reminder the world must unite. We must be together, regardless of nationality or race or faith, in fighting against the scourge of terrorism,” Obama said.
Obama condemned the violence, saying the U.S. would do “whatever is necessary” to bring justice to those behind the “outrageous attacks” in Europe.
The president also phoned Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel to offer condolences and offer U.S. assistance in the investigation, according to the White House.
Still, some Republicans, including Trump’s presidential rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich, called for the president to cut short his historic trip to Cuba to return to the United States in the wake of the attack.
