NY electrical workers backing Clinton

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton on Wednesday picked up the endorsement of New York City electrical workers just hours after rival Bernie Sanders announced his own local union endorsement.

{mosads}“Hillary Clinton is the only credible candidate in this race that has our interests at heart and while she stands with those struggling to hold on to our middle-class standards, she also brings hope to many working class Americans that have slipped behind,” Christopher Erikson, an official of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 3, said in a statement.

The endorsement of the local IBEW chapter, which has 27,000 members, comes just days before New York’s critical April 19 primary.

“If we want to get serious about raising incomes, we have to get serious about supporting union workers,” Clinton said in a statement. “I will never stop fighting for the American worker.”

Sanders picked up an endorsement from the New York City transit workers’ union earlier in the day.

“We all know in this room that you don’t have a great and growing middle class unless you have a great and growing trade union,” Sanders said at a visit to the Transport Workers Union Local 100 hall in Brooklyn.

That union represents 38,000 members and 26,000 retirees, according to its website.
