WATCH: Senator presses Trump on coal promise
West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito tells The Hill she pressed Donald Trump for answers on his pledge to reopen coal mines in her state at last week’s closed-door meeting with GOP leaders.
“There are ways to get coal miners back to work. Let’s ease up on regulations, give longer time lines, move on research and development,” Moore Capito said in an interview with The Hill’s Molly K. Hooper, reiterating what she told Trump. The West Virginia Republican noted that out-of-work coal miners have a role to play in the future, because “30 percent of power is going to be in use of coal, so let’s make West Virginia part of that.”
Watch the video above to hear Moore Capito on the Trump meeting and how she would advise the presumptive Republican presidential nominee on coal policy in her state.
