Manafort to get bigger role in Trump campaign: report

Donald Trump’s convention manager Paul Manafort will reportedly be moving to a more prominent role as the campaign pivots to the general election.

Manafort will be named campaign chairman and chief strategist, ABC News reported, citing sources within the Trump campaign.

{mosads}In Manafort’s initial role as convention manager, he was tasked with securing delegates for Trump ahead of the Republican National Convention. His position is evolving as the campaign looks ahead to the general election and Trump is seen as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski will remain in his role, according to report.

Lewandowski will “continue overseeing day to day operations and will work with Manafort on political strategy and communications, among other things, through the general election,” spokeswoman Hope Hicks said.

Earlier Thursday, Manafort met with Republican leaders on Capitol Hill.

“There’s a growing number of people supporting us. We feel very comfortable that even more will be supporting us next trip,” Manafort told ABC News.

“They all recognize now that we definitely can win, and they want to know what kind of issues we will be stressing, which we’ll be doing in the next month or two.”
